While you may not be one to follow the latest trend, staying in touch with what’s popular is a good way to get great ideas for your next event. When it comes to weddings, people are often seeking to find the perfect ways to make their day special. From Pinterest boards to bridal magazines, wedding planning is all about finding ideas to incorporate into your event. With that in mind, here are the top wedding trends for 2022.

Intimate Weddings

While weddings are typically a huge party, the recent pandemic changed things. As more couple had to make do with small guest lists or elopement weddings, micro wedding became trendy. For many couples, a small wedding eliminates a lot of the stress of planning an extravagant affair and gives them an opportunity to focus on creating meaningful moments. Going along with the intimacy theme, back garden weddings are definitely trending this year.

Classic Lighting

While there are many details to consider when planning your wedding, one getting a lot more attention this year seems to be lighting. Many couples are choosing to go with classic lighting. For outdoor weddings, strands of twinkling lights create a fairytale atmosphere. For indoor festivities, classic fixtures and chandeliers bring an awe-inspiring elegance.

Vibrant Colors

When we think of weddings, we often envision whites and beiges. However, 2022 is bringing in a palette of bold color choices. This is probably one of the most exciting trends of this wedding season. You’ll see earthy tones paired with splashes of bold color as well as bright colors juxtaposed to one another. Purples, blues, and greens are among the most popular. The great thing about color is that there are so many ways to integrate it aside from just tablecloths and napkins. Draping, lighting, and décor pieces are a great way to add a touch of color you’re wedding.

Specialized Bars

This was on the cusp of becoming a trend pre-pandemic but has now risen to prominence in 2022. Many couples are opting for specialized bars at their reception. Typically, these events feature a line of drinks or spirits that speak to the couple. Tequila bars are the most popular followed by wine bars and scotch bars. Many couples are also opting to have special cocktails designed. Some will have one cocktail to celebrate the bride, one for the groom, and another symbolic of their unity as a couple. This is a very creative way to show off your style.

Huge Parties

While micro weddings are definitely trending, the winding down of pandemic restrictions seems to have been a catalyst for huge parties as well. It seems that many weddings are moving to one of these two extremes. Many people have been postponing their large weddings and are now ready for phenomenal event. After all, what says “return to normal” more than having a gigantic wedding with everyone going all out! Large weddings also give couples greater opportunities to customize a festivity to speak to their identities together.

Wedding Weekends

Another trend that we are seeing is weddings taking place over an entire weekend. This is an interesting trend because it works well with both micro weddings and huge events. For the larger events, a smaller group of people closest to the bride and groom are typically invited to extra events before and after the wedding with all of the guests getting the invite for the big party. These events often include things like spa days or golf outings. For intimate weddings, couples are increasingly choosing to plan three-to-four-day adventures for a small number of guests that culminate with nuptials.

Lots of Toasts

While it is traditional for certain people to give toasts, we are seeing a trend of many people giving toasts at the reception. This is not surprising after spending a few years indoors has led people to reflect upon the importance of family, friends, and community. This seems to be increasingly reflected in the desire for people to share their well wishes and appreciation to the new couple.

Live Portraits

Photos have long been one of the most important aspects of wedding planning. After all, who doesn’t want to capture images of such an important day? However, a fun trend we are seeing this year is the commission of artists to paint portraits of the day. This varies from true paintings to caricatures with the latter serving as a fun take-home for your guests and the former as a prized memento that the couple will hang in their home for years to come.
